Other Ships at Sea
This sailing route typically has alot of boat traffic due to the Caribbean economy and proximity to the Panama Canal. Additionally, the Coast Guard patrols this area closely because of the embargo on Cuban products and services, and the frequent attempts of Cuban nationals to escape. On both legs of our sail, Quetzal encountered few other sailboats, but we did see fishing boats, banana boats, tankers, freighters, and of course, Royal Caribbean!
Check out the freighter way off in the distance as Andy and I swim in the middle of the ocean at depths of 7000 feet (that’s almost a mile and a half)!
