Scootering Around Isla Providencia

Beachside Restaurant
With gas and customs papers secured, we rented 4 scooters and doubled up to explore Isla Providencia’s one circular road.  The island is still cleaning up damage from Hurricane Beta, a category 3 which hit Providencia on October 29, 2005.  Beta was the 7th major hurricane in 2005’s record breaking hurricane season (have you seen An Inconvenient Truth yet?); however, most of the roads are well on their way to repair.  After soliciting a restaurant recommendation with some fuzzy directions, we zipped around the island thinking that our lunch stop should be right around the corner … when suddenly we realized that we circumnavigated the whole island and we were right back at the scooter rental office!  Finally, we made it to a beautiful beachside restaurant for some seafood and conch, and dodged some typical Providencia “traffic”.
