S/V Quetzal

S/V QuetzalFor our adventure from Florida to Panama and back, we were on Quetzal which is 47-foot Kaufman.  The name comes from the Resplendent Quetzal, which is the endangered national bird of Guatemala and a legendary spiritual figure to the ancient Mayans.

Our trusted captain, John, prepared all of meals for us in the U-shaped galley!  Although the boat has a pleasant and spacious salon, we enjoyed our meals (and I do mean enjoyed! good cooking!) in the cockpit area.  The 3 cabins are very spacious, but the bunk of choice consisted of the pilot’s berths, or my personal favorite … the starboard settee with a lee cloth.  Nice and cozy (a euphemism for small and confined) is much preferred to rolling all over (including out of bed or over another person).  The boat has 2 heads, one of which has a separate shower area.
